Why learn a foreign language?

The advantages of learning a foreign language

  • Turning your language skills into an asset, a competitive advantage in your career development or a new job
  • Enhance your CV by adding a new language, improving or even certifying your language level
  • Feel as comfortable in another language as you do in your mother tongue (the Holy Grail!)
  • Get rid of the unpleasant feeling that accompanies you during conference calls, meetings, presentations and negotiations: a foreign language where you have the feeling that everyone is more at ease than you…
  • Be able to let your personality shine through, even in a foreign language
  • Discover the cultural codes of this language and score points with your foreign customers, suppliers or partners by addressing them in their language
  • Negotiate more effectively and close more deals.
  • Out of curiosity, to travel, to discover a new language or simply to improve your level for pleasure
  • To be autonomous during professional stays abroad or trips around the world
  • And all the reasons that are specific to each person, whether it’s because you didn’t have the opportunity to do so during your studies, to train your mind, or because you’ve always wanted to be bilingual (or to work towards it…),

But by the way do you really need a reason to learn a foreign language???

Is it possible to learn a foreign language as an adult?

Even as an adult, it is possible to learn a language that is not your mother tongue.

First of all (and once and for all!):

  • Whatever your age or the age of your brain, just because you’re no longer a child (who learns sooooooo easily!) doesn’t mean you can’t learn.
  • And just because you were ‘rubbish’ at English or Spanish in secondary school doesn’t mean you’ll still be rubbish today. Mainly because you’re now an adult, and therefore a real player in your own learning, and therefore logically motivated by this project.
  • Your attitude to learning a language, your motivation and your involvement make a huge and fundamental difference to the learning process. Our trainers are not magicians, but learning facilitators. It’s up to you to do the hard work!

A few tips to make learning easier

First of all,

  • un-com-plex! You learn what you do, so if you don’t take the plunge and accept making mistakes, you won’t progress either. Be tolerant with yourself! Our trainers are there to support you in a spirit of kindness (and believe us, they’ve already seen it all!) and good mood. Don’t worry: you’re sure to improve your comprehension and expression skills.
  • As often as you can, watch films, series, news reports… in the target language. With subtitles in your own language at first, then over time with the original subtitles, and why not without any subtitles at all! Any contact you have with the target language and culture will be beneficial: books, podcasts, newspapers, etc.
  • Alongside your lessons, plan one or more times during the week to go back to the language, do some exercises, reread the vocabulary and form sentences in your head (or on paper). It’s better to have just one lesson a week and do some personal work alongside it than 2 or 3 lessons where you come “with your hands in your pockets”.

Let's get started!

Once you’ve made up your mind, we’ll send you links to two documents to complete:

  • A grammar placement test, the aim of which is not to give you a grade (we hate that notion!), but simply to get a snapshot of your grammatical knowledge at a given moment and measure the scale of the task.
  • A needs assessment form to help us better understand your situation and provide you with advice to the best of our knowledge and belief. The aim is not to sell you the biggest module possible, but the one best suited to your situation!

We then discuss the pedagogical aspects of your project with you, as well as the funding options available to you depending on your situation. And, of course, we’ll be with you every step of the way, so you’re not alone in the administrative jungle!

And once all this has been validated, 1, 2, 3, go!
